That's the title of an article written by Mark Morford about... about.. well, i let you discover for yourself because it's so perfectly said that it would be wrong to paraphrase.
As to what's going on in he U.S. political world right now, I rather not look. It is nasty, it is painful and it is DUMB. Have we gone mad? Look at the media. No, on second thought: don't look!
And when I hear my democrat friends parrot fox News I want to bang my head against a wall. I was debating the other day wether or not I still should call myself a democrat. But I could not possibly. I'm too progressive. I'm too smart.
I have to remind myself to chill. I'm only in the passenger seat. I can freak out, close my eyes, and thanks the heavens that Obama is the designated driver.
On a more positive note: It's nice that there still are people (in Europe, maybe not here) who are not entirely jaded and who believe there are solutions:

Hi, Corine! Thanks for the link to Mark Morford's commentary. Are you originally from the Bay Area? Me too. I share your frustration with the virulent naysayers. Some are even distant in-laws of mine, who forward the most hateful, misinformed bile in group emails (often filled too with religious self-righteousness), then get all offended when I dare contradict them with facts (sigh). Oh well, they're all older than I am, so just to be spiteful maybe I'll outlive them ;-)

People are frightened and frustrated, and not thinking clearly.
And we have become childish adults impatient and immature, always wanting quick fixes NOW.
It would take President Obama several lifetimes to unravel the things others before him created and bestowed upon him.
I for one, stand by my man.

im with vamp..i stand by obama..i think he is doing the very best with what he has to work with and by that i mean the old, archaic idiots he shares office with. too many naysayers(negativity) will always keep us behind.
brilliant video though. bill nighy is awesome. and i think, if it's as straightforward as they made it seem, this robin hood tax could be a great solution. or at least a step in the right direction. you have to put it out there if you want change to work. talking about it isn't going to do anything.

Agree with all...you ought to be here in DC. It's beyond ridiculous...but please, Corine, don't just say 'media.' I did that once & my then-boss laughed & pointed at me. I said, "What are you doing, Margaret? I'm serious here, the media...." And then I realized I had my press credentials around my neck, was carrying a reporter's notebook, a small tape recorder, & piles of well-written (at the time) newspapers. And I'd just had b-fast that morning at The Press Club with WPost friends. Oy. I routinely write to people I find objectionable (& often factually wrong) who have responsible media positions. Often. Everyone responds. They might not agree with me but I am not the only one who objects & they hear it. Please write even a short email if you see something that they should address, correct, or otherwise refine. Please. You have no idea how many people complain but do not do so to the writer/pundit/whoever directly. If someone doesn't hear (reasonable) feedback, they go their merry way thinking everything's fine. Remember: Nixon wouldn't have been felled if not for the media. Just saying....

Indeed! What are people thinking? That he's got some sort of superpowers and all it takes is a *pouf* of the magic wand and eight years of shit will just disappear?
