As long as I am entertained for my ten bucks, I am pretty forgiving when it comes to going to the movies. In fact, give me two hours of previews and a bucket of popcorn and I don’t know the difference. Were the movies I saw this winter break worth seeing? Who cares.
I came out whistling the soundtrack but with a price to pay: my 8 year old boy might never forgive me for putting through the indignity of taking him to Enchanted. In the theater, it was just us and three hundred hysterical little girls.
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. Exquisitely artistic movie but s-l-o-w. The hero is a quadriplegic trying to communicate with a single blinking eye, and here I am thinking “come-on! Cough it out already." Also, in the eye of Schnabel there exist only two kinds of women: his magnificent wife Olatz Schnabel and every other woman in the known universe. I wasn’t quite able to tell apart the ex-wife from the scribe, from the speech therapist.
The Golden Compass: Nothing quite like armored polar bears engaged in mortal combat. Was distracted by Nicole Kidman’s hair. Something went terribly awry there. I spent the movie longing for a comb for the woman.
Juno: the movie that made it Indie cool to walk around your high school chin up and pregnant at sixteen.
Also, not a sentence that comes out of the mouth of Juno rings true. I didn't mind.

Charlie Wilson War was an eye opener, but the flippant tone didn’t feel right considering the gravity of the historical event. It was fun to watch Julia Roberts as Drag Queen, though.
Romance and cigarettes: Leaped out of my theater chair and ran out after precisely seven minutes. Horrible, simply horrible, sorry John Turturo, you’re still a cool guy, but this was unwatchable, even by my low standards.
All pictures borrowed from movies.aol.com except Olatz Schabel’s which I found here: http://cache.viewimages.com/xc/53063582.jpg?v=1&c=ViewImages&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF1939847EC77F5F8D1CE5946727F47DAAFF8A40A659CEC4C8CB6

I ALSO, JUST SAW CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR. IT IS SO SCARY THAT POLITICS ARE HANDLED IN SUCH AWAY.
I BELEIVE IT TO BE TRUE.
IT WAS SLOW, BUT IT KEPT IN THE
THEATER.
AS I WAS WAITING FOR MY SON'S MOVIE TO END, I SAW THE LAST 1/2 HOUR OF TAARE ZAMEEN PAR- AND FOUND MYSELF (AND HEARD OTHERS) CRYING NOT EVEN KNOWING THE BEGINNING OF THE STORY- THE MUSIC
WAS BEAUTIFUL AND THE SCREEN BURSTING WITH COLOR. YOU MIGHT
LIKE IT.
