I might be suffering from the kind of remorse one feels when one posts photographs of toilet paper rolls on what one has the audacity to call a design blog. So today I promise less sarcasm and more photographs.
I love the small town of Carpinteria. It's ten minutes from Santa Barbara and has a small town feel, a beautiful beach (the safest in the world they say) and the famous Robitaille, the old-fashion candy store. In October, Carpinteria hosts the not to be missed Avocado Festival. I've never been to the Avocado festival and my husband and i pondered what it entails. Avocado toss? Bobbing for avocado? Surely a guacamole eating contest. But mostly Carpinteria has several great antique stores, and I never come home empty handed.
I love those old signs at Whimsy, an antique store with an eclectic selection, lots of mid-century finds, and a decidedly cool vibe.

Did I buy anything?
No. because on the way there, something made me a bit qeasy about my habit of accumulating beautiful things. I might have mentioned in passing my weak spot for my accumulated junk and my inability to throw things out.
Well the following had a sobbering effect on me.
"Mom? Is this man crazy?" My eight year old demanded to know, a little too close to the viscinity of the man's ears for my taste. "No, I muttered gaily, he's just very creative, like mommy."
As soon as we returned I faced this:
And realize then and there that I might have hit bottom.
But today: look.
Okay. Can I hit the garage sales now?

No no no, it would not be reasonable ;-)
